Experience surrealism with NSFW in this free indie game

The Good Time Garden is a free short indie adventure video game that lets you explore a strange throbbing world full of pink naked creatures. Developed by James Carbutt and Will Todd, The Good Time Garden follows the story of a little pink creature born from a squelching flower. It soon discovers another creature sprouting from the ground that gives it the mission to find things it can eat to grow. The Good Time Garden features beautifully-odd hand-drawn animation that highlights its surreal world and leaves you both wanting to stop exploring and giving in to your morbid curiosity.

Pink is weird

Right from the start, The Good Time Garden reveals an atmosphere that is simultaneously adorable and questionably R-rated. From the undulating background environment reminiscent of internal organs to tiny creatures that are nakedly pink and fleshy for some reason, this game is not shy about getting mature while being cute with its art. Hilarious, creepy, horrifying, and beautiful—it’s a highly strange combination, for sure. It doesn’t help that you can contribute to it.

Your character can “slap” and “water” to interact with objects and other creatures, which leads to visual innuendos that the characters will sometimes comment on—even scandalously groan at. There are also several times throughout the game that you feel disturbed at what’s happening, especially during the feeding scenes with the creature you need to feed. Everything looks innocent with the little faces and all of the pink, but you will keep running into something that will constantly make you question why the game is so weird yet so interesting

It’s supposed to be NSFW but at the same time, it’s not. Sadly, the game is pretty short and can be finished around half an hour. You mostly just explore and figure out how to get food for your strange hungry friend. Plus, it frustratingly has no tutorial. It has a wonderful original soundtrack, however, and amazing frame-by-frame hand-drawn art that really shows the developers’ dedication to making you question why The Good Time Garden is so good despite its weirdness.
